Mount Balwang(1458m) borders with Pyeongchang-myun, Jinbu-myun, and Gangreung City, Wangsan-myun. The north side of the mountain harbors Yongpyeong ski resort. The mountain was named after the sad legend of Balwang and Oknyu. The yew forest, ski slope, and other sceneries gives an awe-inspiring course for hikers. The snowy mountain emits beauty no other mountains can surpass.
The hiking paths are not too steep, making the mountain easily hiked during spring and fall, but the winter counterpart requires proper attire and equipment due to strong winds and heavy snowfall. However, these paths and hills can be negotiated with use of Yongpyung Ski Resort gondola.
Taken from the Dragon Plaza, this longest gondola(7.4km) in Asia will take you up to the peak in 17 minutes, and lead you to the famous Swiss cafe shown in a famous Korean TV drama. You can enjoy the scenery over a cup of tea in this cafe. There are statues of the TV Drama stars towards the vista point to the right.
